AMVAC Regulatory Issues Statement Regarding Dacthal/DCPA

Newport Beach, CA

AMVAC Chemical acknowledges receipt of the U.S. Environmental Agency (EPA) notice of intent to suspend (NOITS) the pesticide dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate (DCPA).

In response to the statement issued by the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, AMVAC would like to clarify that there has been significant dialogue between EPA and AMVAC regarding DCPA over the last 9 years. EPA has received preparatory study data on the key toxicological endpoint on thyroid toxicity and the definitive study will be completed and submitted in June 2022. EPA was fully aware of this proposed date for submission. This study will address the statements from the Agency around their key concerns on thyroid activity.

Additionally, AMVAC stands by the relevance and content of our submitted waivers during the DCI and can point to very recent concurrence from the agency on such waiver arguments.

AMVAC is currently working with a FIFRA attorney to determine the next steps with respect to negotiating or filing for a hearing as required by this notice and are committed to provide complete responses to the DCI. We want to assure all stakeholders that we have and continue to meet our obligations under the DCI on complex studies and that our commitment to keep this active ingredient registered has not changed. Please contact me at the email address AnneT@amvac.com if you would like any additional information on our regulatory position.
