Agri Marketing Magazine Selects BioWake™ as 2023 New Product of the Year

Newport Beach, CA

SIMPAS® application system named runner-up for 2023 Product of the Year

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 11, 2024 BioWake™ for Corn and BioWake™ for Soybeans, the biological seed lubricants, from AMVAC® GreenSolutions, have been named the 2023 New Product of the Year by Agri Marketing Magazine.

The award recognizes products and services with the potential to have significant impact on the production of food, feed, fiber, protein, and fuel. The recipient is selected by a judging committee. Agri Marketing Magazine serves North American agribusiness managers, their advertising or PR agencies, and others in the ag industry and is the official partner of the National Agri-Marketing Association.

The first products under the BioWake banner, which are soy-based seed lubricants for corn and soybeans that deliver seed fluency and live microbial benefits, were launched for the 2023 growing season.

“It is a true honor for us to be named the New Product of the Year for BioWake, alongside some of the most notable technologies in agriculture in recent years,” said Ted Walter, U.S. GreenSolutions marketing manager, AMVAC. “Biologicals hold a lot of potential for row crops, and we have already introduced two more products under the BioWake portfolio, BioWake Prime™ and BioWake™ for Cotton, for the 2024 growing season.”

“Each year since 2009, Agri Marketing magazine has held its new product of the year program,” reported Lynn Henderson, the publication’s publisher/editorial director. “The program is held to recognize the outstanding technology that is being introduced to North American crop and livestock producers to help them become more efficient and profitable.

“This year, the program’s judges selected AMVAC’s BioWake to join the elite products which have included John Deere’s autonomous tractor, Corteva’s Enlist E3 Soybeans, Syngenta’s Acuron plus many others. I’d like to be the first to congratulate the AMVAC team on receiving this high honor.”

Another AMVAC product also received recognition from the judging committee this year. The SIMPAS® application system was named runner-up for 2023 Product of the Year. SIMPAS allows farmers to prescriptively apply up to three SIMPAS-applied Solutions™ (SaS™) in-furrow at the same time while planting. This award honors products that have been on the market for a minimum of three years.

“The SIMPAS application system supports environmental stewardship with precision product application, fewer inputs in the field, reduced worker exposure, and the addition of traceability,” said Jim Lappin, director of the SIMPAS portfolio for AMVAC. “Using digital technology, the system keeps track of where in the field and the amount of pesticide or nutrient that is applied. The records help simplify adoption of conservation management practices.”

This year’s prestigious lineup of judges included:

  • Jim Borel, executive vice president of DuPont (retired) who oversaw its DuPont Pioneer, crop protection and other ag/food divisions
  • Clayton Becker, president/CEO of Farmers National Co. which is the nation’s largest professional farm management firm overseeing over two million acres of cropland. He is a former executive of Syngenta.
  • Bill Northey, CEO of the Agribusiness Association of Iowa, former secretary of the Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship, and previously undersecretary of the USDA
  • Dr. Scott Downey, director of Purdue University’s Center for Food and Agricultural Business and a professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics
  • Ryan Hassebrook, CEO of ServiTech, the nation’s largest independent crop consulting firm
  • Lynn Henderson of Agri Marketing magazine who has served on the boards of directors for the National 4-H Council, National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA), National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants, and several other organizations.

“These judges were chosen,” Henderson said, “because of their independence, broad and deep knowledge of agricultural technology, and leadership in the industry.”
