AMVAC is looking for a Plant Engineer with Specialty Chemicals manufacturing experience for their Los Angeles manufacturing plant. The role combines process and field engineering for an operating plant that operates 24 x 7 safely and efficiently.  The ideal candidate has Delta V and continuous manufacturing experience with a desire to assist and improve process development.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Plant Engineer will troubleshoot the plant’s unit operations (batch and continuous operations)
  • Define, collect, and analyze operating data for troubleshooting and design
  • Design and/or specify equipment to meet all applicable environmental and safety regulations (EPA, AQMD, Cal OSHA, etc.)
  • Utilize field engineering ability to set up sequences, sketches, and requirements for equipment installation
  • Prepare start-up manuals/checklists and provide operator training
  • Select appropriate instrumentation
  • Specify materials of construction
  • Perform equilibrium calculations on existing and proposed processes for debottlenecking and evaluation studies
  • Evaluate, select, and supervise contractor services for maintenance and plant improvements
  • Participate in HAZOP studies
  • Prepare process flow sheet and P & I drawings
  • Travel to other locations to provide operations assistance
  • Other duties as required

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Plant Engineer in a specialty chemical manufacturing plant with direct production responsibilities
  • Able to perform vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations with or without software
  • PLC / DCS experience; DeltaV a plus
  • Proven experience specifying mechanical design of new equipment; modifying existing equipment and analyzing operating data for troubleshooting
  • Experience writing and presenting technical reports that are clear, concise, and informative
  • Spreadsheet ability essential (EXCEL worksheets)
  • A mindset that desires to conserve organizational resources and optimize performance
  • Display original thinking and creativity; generate suggestions for improving work and plant operations
  • Understanding of plant operations including rotating, equilibrium, and reaction equipment
  • Self-starter; assumes responsibility for own work with minimal contracting or delegating to others
  • Detail and deadline-oriented with the ability to fast-track projects to minimize plant disruption
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word; Excel; PowerPoint; and Project Management software
  • Must pass post‐offer drug test, background check, and other appropriate tests as required

Education Requirements

  • BS ChE from an accredited college
