Job Function
The Transportation Manager is responsible for managing the inbound shipments of raw materials and out bound delivery of finished goods and has full P&L responsibilities (rates, delivery costs and delays) including Insurance, Compliance (DOT, TSA) and maintenance. A primary responsibility of this role is maintaining regular communication with plant management and production personnel as well as external business partners. Detailed record keeping, compliance (safety, environmental, OSHA), training and consistent follow up are required. Logistics experience managing rail car freight and motor carrier shipments is mandatory.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Schedule and monitor transit progress of raw materials and finished product shipments (rail & trucking)
- Provide daily status reports of incoming and outbound shipments to management, production planning, quality, purchasing, customer service (sales) and quality
- Track rail car shipments including (car) location, delivery and pick up schedules
- Manage Rail Cars including leasing, maintenance, DOT & TSA reporting and billing (empty & filled)
- Monitor rail cars including scheduling DOT mandated HM-201 car inspections
- Manage Motor Carriers (trucking) including selection, freight charges, shipping documents per DOT requirements and insurance
- Expedite EPA approval for sample imports and arrange import broker liaison for carriers and customer’s release (rail; trucking; air)
- Manage insurance claims providing information such as estimated value, shortages & follow up on claims
- Respond to Chemtrec, carrier, customer service and production planning for en-route or delivery exceptions
- Enter and modify generalized codes, master comments, bill of lading descriptions in QAD (ERP) software
- Manage vendors; negotiate pricing, maintain rate files, and audit freight bills
- Responsible for maintaining and producing documentation for DOT, TSA and FRA
Skills & Qualifications
- 4+ years of relevant (transportation / traffic management) experience both rail and carrier transport
- Rail and transport shipment management
- Logistics / supply chain responsibilities; experience at a chemical manufacturing company desired
- Hazardous materials; HM-201; HM-232 knowledge and compliance guidelines
- DOT 49 CRG / IATA; TSA; CSA;
- Negotiation experience (insurance; freight carriers; leasing)
- Bills of Lading (BOL) for hazardous materials; Air freight
- Computer skills (EXCEL / ERP software / Outlook )
- Reporting experience maintaining attention to detail at all times
- Ability to pass post-offer background check & pre-employment physical
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in transportation or related field
