Job Function
The Synthesis Supervisor is responsible for the safe, environmentally acceptable and efficient operation of the plant on an ongoing basis. The Supervisor confers with management to establish production and Quality Control requirements. The Supervisor directs and coordinates the department(s) activities to meet production and QC requirements by applying knowledge of production methods, manufacturing equipment, and capabilities of the team.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures efficient and safe operation of plant activities
- Manages all resources related to manpower, assets and capabilities
- Meets production goals working closely with management
- Prioritizes and assigns tasks to complete activities and achieve production goals on time
- Ensures compliance with all safety and environmental regulatory requirements
- Coordinates communication between management and personnel
- Utilizes available resources to ensure plant needs are met - may fill in as operator when required
- Effectively juggles multiple priorities while following policies and procedures
- Interacts with subordinates and managers on a daily basis to deal with, influence and motivate employees while aligning work with strategic goals
- Supervises personnel performance ensuring it meets compliance standards; manages discipline issues in an immediate fashion
- Coordinates emergency maintenance requirements
- Carries out safety meetings and training as required
- Follows and communicates all company policies, practices and lawful directives
Skills & Qualifications
- Extensive experience in Specialty Chemical manufacturing and plant operations
- Knowledge of Distillation processes required
- Experience operating and monitoring plant’s DCS system
- Read and understand P&IDs, mechanical and electrical drawings
- Ability to perform minor maintenance
- Strong Computer Skills with a proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Must be a role model and be recognized as a leader with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills both verbally and written
- Excellent communication skills to relay expectations with all levels of employees to achieve cooperation and effectiveness
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment juggling multiple priorities while following policies and procedures
- Professional work ethic and can maintain confidential information as required
- Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts
- Must be able to participate in the respiratory program which includes but is not limited to being clean-shaven and able to wear a respirator when safety needs dictate
- Must participate in the Safety monthly blood draw program and random drug tests
- Be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test
- Pass Department of Homeland Security pre-employment criminal background check
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency required
- Technical degree desirable, Chemical Engineering degree preferred
Experience Requirements
- 5+ years working in the chemical industry
- 2+ years supervisory experience
- HAZWOPER / Hazmat or other safety training preferred
