Job Function

The Synthesis Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of AMVAC’s Axis manufacturing plant. The Synthesis Supervisor directs and coordinates activities of the production department applying knowledge of production methods, manufacturing equipment and the capabilities of the team members while conferring with management to establish and deliver production and Quality Control requirements.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures efficient operations of the plant’s manufacturing and production activities
  • Manages all resources related to manpower, assets and capabilities ensuring that production goals are carried out in a timely manner
  • Coordinates communications between management and hourly personnel (written & verbal)
  • Coordinates emergency maintenance requirements
  • Addresses decisions regarding prioritizing of personnel activities and assigns tasks to complete activities and achieve production goals on time
  • Contacts and utilizes available resources to ensure plant needs are met; filling in as operator when required
  • Complies and ensures compliance with all regulatory safety and environmental requirements
  • Supervises personnel performance ensuring it meets compliance standards and manages issues of discipline in an immediate fashion  
  • Carries out safety meetings and training as required with his shift 
  • Communicates and follows all company policies, practices and lawful directives 

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years working in the chemical industry; Specialty chemical plant operations a plus
  • 2+ years supervisory experience
  • Hazwoper / Hazmat or other safety training 
  • Strong computer skills with a proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) 
  • Experience operating and monitoring plant’s DCS system
  • Read and understand P&IDs, mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written  
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts as required
  • Must be able to participate in the respiratory program which includes but is not limited to being clean-shaven and able to wear a respirator when safety needs dictate
  • Must participate in the Safety monthly blood draw program and random drug tests
  • Be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug test 
  • Pass Department of Homeland Security pre-employment criminal background check

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required
  • Technical degree desirable, Chemical Engineering degree preferred
