Job Function
The Senior Manager, Safety and Health will lead workplace safety and health management at AMVAC’s Axis, Alabama manufacturing plant. They will emphasize a culture of safety and work to reduce and eliminate injuries, occupational illnesses and property damage while juggling multiple priorities and serving as a role model and leader. They will establish and support risk controls and management processes that promote sustainable business practices and provide advice on matters related to health and wellness in accordance with Local, State and Federal OSHA regulations and AMVAC’s corporate objectives.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain and improve the company’s safety and health policies, programs and safety training for plant employees and contractors as required by Federal, State and Local OSHA regulations for chemical manufacturing
• Responsible for all safety equipment and permits (i.e., hot work, safe work, confined space)
• Review and approve safety aspects of all Management of Change (MOCs) and conduct Job Safety audits of new and existing processes and procedures
• Lead incident investigations (including root cause analysis), conduct weekly audits, manage behavior-based observations program, and document corrective action items to ensure safety and health policies and procedures are followed
• Manage and supervise on-site safety and paramedic personnel
• Use research, risk-analysis, and evidence to drive problem-solving and integrate value-added practical solutions into organizational goals by a) collecting, analyzing and interpreting relevant data to reduce the risk profile of an organization and b) interpreting OSHA performance measurements for effectiveness and continual improvement
• Communicate and interact effectively with stakeholders, colleagues and employees fostering mutual respect and shared decision-making to enhance worker health and safety by a) demonstrating the development and delivery of effective training by employing various methods and b) explaining the business importance of responsible business practices to interested parties
• Collect, classify, store, retrieve and disseminate recorded knowledge to help make informed and data-driven decisions about occupational safety and health threats and hazards
• Gather and apply credible information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate risk and support decision-making
• Influence the behavior of individuals, systems and work groups in a way that will facilitate the achievement of shared corporate goals by explaining the role and importance of leadership in a risk management context
• Show accountability by establishing workplace programs and worker safety and health advocacy practices in a moral, legal, ethical and socially responsible manner
• Demonstrate compliance with safety and health-related local, state and federal regulations (i.e. process safety management, chemical facility security, transportation, etc.)
• Perform other assignments as necessary and directed by management
Skills & Qualifications
• 5+ years of safety and health experience in a manufacturing plant (chemical manufacturing preferred) including 2+ years in a supervisory role with management experience
• Successful history working safely with hazardous materials and chemicals
• Excellent knowledge of Federal, State and Local safety and health regulations and relevant EPA, DHS, DOT regulations
• Understanding of Industrial Hygiene requirements
• Experience coaching managers, supervisors and field personnel to successfully follow company policies and procedures regarding the safety and health of employees and contractors
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
• MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) experience required
• Previous experience managing departmental (P&L) budgets
• Must be a role model and be recognized as a leader with excellent organizational and time management skills
• Ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner
• Experience managing manpower and assets while juggling multiple priorities
• Must be willing to work during off-hours to meet business needs when necessary
• Some travel will be required
Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree Required– Occupational Safety and Health degree or similar desired
• Master’s degree desired
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
• Additional coursework and/or certifications – OSHA, Hazmat, ISO, etc
