AMVAC, an American Vanguard company, is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist with agrochemical experience to join their Regulatory team. The Senior Environmental Scientist will provide options for addressing global regulatory strategies related to environmental fate and risk assessment for AMVAC’s agrochemical products.  They will direct the efforts of technical experts to defend AMVAC product registrations worldwide and communicate regularly with Registration Product Managers and Senior Management. The Senior Environmental Scientist will prepare and present studies that address environmental and regulatory requirements world-wide.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Formulate and advise Regulatory Product Managers on available options for addressing global regulatory strategies related to the residue chemistry, environmental science, and ecotoxicology of AMVAC’s products including agrochemical pesticides
  • Direct efforts of technical consultants to defend AMVAC product registrations worldwide
  • Interpret government regulations on a global basis and communicate potential threats and opportunities to the Registration Product Managers and the Global VP of Regulatory Affairs
  • Liaise with Regulatory Authorities and industry technical groups on technical regulatory matters (outside of toxicology) that are relevant to AMVAC product registrations
  • Plan, design and monitor technical studies that address exposure concerns to workers, the public, and the environment to meet regulatory requirements worldwide including certifying testing laboratories, assessing value, protocol design and review, addressing any technical challenges during the conduct of studies, and review and interpretation of study results
  • Responsible for Document review, critical analysis of literature and reports, data management, statistical data analysis, and written communications preparation for global regulatory agencies
  • Work collaboratively on projects with other members of the regulatory and scientific team and interdisciplinary groups
  • Provide focused attention to the development of EPA ESA policy and advise Regulatory Product Managers and Global VP of regulatory
  • Ensure studies are properly archived electronically and physically
  • Contact and manage third party risk assessments in defense of our product registrations worldwide and assist with due diligence efforts in product or company acquisitions
  • Represent company with external customers (i.e., Task Force, Regulatory Authorities, etc.)

Skills & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience conducting and managing GLP regulatory studies
  • Significant knowledge in agrochemical regulation risk assessments 
  • Experience formulating and implementing successful strategies for obtaining and maintaining product registrations of agrochemical pesticides or similar products regulated by the EPA
  • Proven ability to develop new areas of expertise and desire to support AMVAC products
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and achieve common goals and objectives in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  • Ability to influence others to adopt an action by using scientific data, facts, logic, and credible personal presence
  • Skilled using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for high-level presentations
  • Experience with data analysis and statistics, and graphical presentation of data desired
  • Experience with basic programming tools such as Excel, Access, and a programming language (e.g., R or Python) is a plus
  • Effective at prioritizing multiple projects and tasks with competing deadlines, and communicating within multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications to the regulatory bodies
  • Experience in conducting fieldwork and studies, such as the collection of soils, sediments, surface water, and biota for laboratory analyses is not required but would be a plus
  • Experience performing trace analysis of organic chemicals preferred
  • Established relationships with consultants, laboratories, and other experts in the field
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus


Education Requirements

  • B.S. Chemistry, Biology, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Science Required
  • Higher Education Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Advanced studies in Environmental Fate, Ecotoxicology, Agrochemicals, pesticides or related field desired

Experience Requirements

  • Experience conducting and managing GLP regulatory studies
  • Knowledge of Agrochemical; Pesticides; Ecotoxicology or related fields
  • Global Regulatory policies and product registrations
