Job Function

As a part of the Engineering Department, the Process Engineer at AMVAC’s Axis Manufacturing Plant is responsible for process engineering including startup, troubleshooting and production of chemical products in the plant.  The Process Engineer will provide support for Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and other facets of the Process Safety Management (PSM) program; and aid in capital and process improvement projects. The Process Engineer also assures proper process information is developed, reviewed and made available to the appropriate parties and for audit purposes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide engineering technical support and make improvements to operations through process troubleshooting and optimization

• Proactively seek ways to improve production rates, yields, quality and costs

• Troubleshoot any processing, quality, or equipment abnormalities

• Provide engineering documentation for sizing of process equipment, i.e., pumps, control valves, and relief valves

• Calculate distillations requirements for product purity

• Support the simulation and process design process

• Assist on capital projects and plant start-ups

• Provide support for the plant’s PSM system

• Collect and document operating data for production campaigns

• Develop major equipment specifications including reactors and distillation columns

• Model physical properties for a broad spectrum of fluids and mixtures

• Review equipment approval drawings

• Assist in major equipment bid evaluations from a technical perspective

• Develop P&IDs and PFDs including instrumentation specifications and selection for current and new products

• Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews

• Write campaign summaries and technical reports

• Prepare capital project estimates

• Perform hydraulic calculations and analysis & heat exchange equipment design and analysis

• Work with Research & Development on new formulation development to create new process designs

• Comply with all regulatory safety & environmental requirements

• Ensure compliance with all company policies, practices and lawful directives

• Performs other assignments as necessary and directed by management

 

Skills & Qualifications

• 4+ years' chemical plant experience with a broad technical understanding of plant operations

• 2+ years' experience in industrial or manufacturing setting is preferred

• Knowledge of process design & distillation processes preferred

• In-plant optimization experience

• Capable of translating new product packages into a plant design

• Ability to read and understand P&ID's

• Experience using Aspen simulator and hydraulic calculation software

• Demonstrated ability to learn to troubleshoot process equipment and instrumentation

• Able to work as a team member as well as independently

• Must have excellent communication and computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.)

• Must be able to pass a physical and drug test

• Must be able to pass a Department of Homeland Security approved pre-employment criminal background check

Education Requirements

• B.S. Chemical Engineering preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering + related experience
