AMVAC Chemical Corporation has an opening for a Logistics Supervisor (Domestic) at their Axis, Alabama location.  AMVAC, an American Vanguard company has successfully served the results-driven global markets through development, manufacturing and marketing products for agricultural use.

The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for assuring that all AMVAC domestic (US) shipments via road & rail are shipped and delivered on time.  The Logistics Supervisor oversees the overall shipping and receiving operations for Axis and manages AMVAC’s fleet of ISO containers, railcars and other leased or privately owned transportation equipment. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Determine logistical needs for each department in terms of raw materials and equipment needed in / finished products out
  • Supervise the local logistics personnel through all logistics / production needs both scheduled or interrupted
  • Supervise plant’s loading personnel to assure the safe and environmentally sustainable loading and unloading of various forms of transport
  • Coordinate with Operations on loading & unloading activities
  • Work closely with the Axis Planning Department as well as off-site production planners to determine future logistical needs
  • Work with other AMVAC planners to allocate trucking to meet seasonal requirements  
  • Interact daily with AMVAC’s current 3rd party logistics provider(s) on any external logistics needs
  • Meet with local carriers and vendors to increase overall trucking capacity for shipments
  • Resolve any customer related issues or complaints associated with logistics in a timely manner 
  • Assure that each order shipped and received is recorded and retained per DOT 49 CFR standards
  • Focus on cost savings in terms of freight and equipment leasing & repair costs
  • Routinely monitor inspection and repair needs for AMVAC’s fleet of equipment
  • Review and approve invoices for job related functions
  • Review and approves payroll for both logistics and shipping & receiving departments
  • Perform other assignments as necessary and directed by management

Skills & Qualifications

  • 4+ years’ experience in a logistics related position, preferably with hazardous materials in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years’ experience in a logistics supervisory / leadership role
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and ISO requirements
  • Comprehensive understanding of DOT regulations
  • Hazardous Material Certification will be required
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented
  • Critical and logical thinking; remain calm under pressure
  • Negotiating abilities and experience
  • Able to work as a team member as well as independently
  • Must be prompt, dependable and have a good attendance record
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) are required
  • Be able to pass physical, drug tests and a Department of Homeland Security approved pre-employment criminal background check

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors’ or Associates’ degree desired
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • Hazardous Material Certification (a plus)
