American Vanguard has an opportunity for a Director of Tax. The Director of Tax is responsible for all tax matters for the Global Consolidated tax position. The position is responsible for initial preparation of the Corporate tax provision and coordinates with 3rd parties for many aspects of the Company’s tax responsibilities. Further, the position is responsible for reviewing the work of 3rd parties to the extent necessary to provide an adequate level of certainty that the Company’s tax positions are correct. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly closing, quarterly financial reporting and analysis, and annual budgets, particularly with items related to tax provision, deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, any relevant valuation allowances, cross charges and transfer pricing
  • Manage, review, and provide federal and state income tax related information to 3rd party tax preparers
  • Review and finalize quarterly and year-end tax provisions for effective tax rate – including review of both domestic and international provisions
  • Review annual federal and state income tax returns prepared by 3rd party tax preparers
  • Coordinate with 3rd party tax advisors regarding FIN 48, transfer pricing, R&D tax credits, and international issues
  • Reviews sales, use and property tax returns
  • Ensure all property tax statements are properly reviewed and that payments are made on a timely basis
  • Respond to all Corporate SOX and Audit matters related to tax
  • Responsible for all state apportionment matters
  • Manage all Federal and State Audits – as and when they occur
  • Responsible for all Ad Hoc information/analysis requests from the CEO, CFO, CAO and COO
  • Responsible for the training and development of Finance – Tax personnel  

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of tax accounting experience in industry and/or public corporation
  • 5+ years of tax experience with a Big 4 or middle market (BDO or Grant Thornton) public accounting firm preferred
  • Solid background in US corporate tax compliance, GAAP, and other related US accounting standards and principles
  • CPA license or some other such applicable Tax qualification required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required and in QAD Enterprise Software (an advantage)
  • Proficient in research software such as CCH Tax Research; RIA Checkpoint; BNA Income Tax Portfolio
  • Excellent business writing and communication skills
  • Must pass pre-employment background check

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science, Accounting and Accounting Information Systems or some other such applicable tax qualification
  • Master of Business Taxation a plus
  • CPA or similar required
