Job Function

The Director of Operations at the Agrinos Oregon manufacturing site facilitates efficient end-to-end operations in Production & Logistics for the US and Mexico. The person in this role will direct and coordinate production, logistics, and new product development / tolling activities in alignment with company goals and objectives by providing sound leadership and organizational management.  The position reports to the VP Global Supply Chain & Operations at AMVAC, an American Vanguard Company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees Production, Logistics for the US and Mexico to ensure all products are manufactured, prepared, tested and shipped safely and efficiently with attention to delivering high quality products in full and on time
  • Develops and executes a manufacturing strategy focusing on safety, quality, delivery, and cost, employing advanced manufacturing technologies and total work systems
  • Facilitates short- and long-term strategic planning for all departments and develops a corresponding annual budget to enable achieving agreed-upon milestones
  • Develops and monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and ensures adequate reporting from top management teams on departmental performance
  • Leads resource planning for all functions including supporting managers in recruiting, onboarding, and professional development of staff
  • Reviews department performance against operating plans and standards and provides regular updates to key stakeholders on operational milestones, operational issues, and department management
  • Reviews and analyzes cost control reports, cost estimates, labor, and facility requirements for cost effectiveness and budget determinations
  • Leads and directs department managers toward accomplishing annual department and professional goals
  • Acts as liaison between departmental managers and between executive team and staff to inform personnel of communications, decisions, and policies that affect their performance and results
  • Provides managerial and technical expertise to identify and analyze a wide range of technical, process, and operational issues and find resolutions through quick and decisive decision-making as needed to improve efficiencies in all departmental operations
  • Develops, along with Process Development, tolling (CMO) opportunities including scope, negotiation and contracts
  • Develops, oversees, and closely monitors annual department budgets
  • Provides project leadership for capital planning and execution
  • Manages (responsible for managing direct reports) and works closely with other departments to manage personnel and resources with the technical (R&D) groups
  • Travel (10%) including International (Mexico) and domestic may be required

Skills & Qualifications

  • 10+ years related work experience in operations, logistics, or manufacturing in a brewery/distillery, pharma or nutraceutical, dairy or other fermentation environment in a leadership position
  • Understanding and experience in fermentation / microbial fermentation production / process desired
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, including written and verbal communication, in order to effectively convey information to employees at all levels and key executive stakeholders
  • Experience in hiring and recruiting at all levels
  • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions: Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Logistics
  • Strong working knowledge of quality standards (i.e. ISO 9001)
  • Demonstrated experience with lean principles and driving improvements in a cross-functional setting: commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a budget and control costs within a budget
  • Track record of strong working knowledge of and commitment to high safety standards in all operations in manufacturing
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development skills
  • Strong project management and coordination skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to execute project plans to meet program cost, quality, and timing targets
  • Must pass post-offer, pre-employment background, physical and other tests as required

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science (chemistry, biology, etc.) or relevant combination of experience and education
  • Advanced knowledge of Kaizen, Six Sigma, or Lean Engineering preferred
