AMVAC is seeking a proven, self-motivated, and engaged executive to lead the environmental, health, and safety operations function (EH&S) for the company. The next Director - EHS Operations will be responsible for leading a dynamic EHS operations team and creating the vision to drive the strategic direction of the company’s EH&S programs and initiatives.

The scope of this role spans the entire manufacturing plant network, research and development, and operations functions: effecting change and enabling maturity in becoming world-class leaders in EHS performance.  Reporting to the Vice President, Global Supply Chain & Operations, the new EHS executive will be part of a senior management team in a highly visible and key leadership position. As expected, the new Director will take part in providing frequent updates to the executive leadership team. He/she will collaborate with consultants, cross-functional teams, government agencies, and stakeholders as well as working with the reporting regional safety & environmental managers to ensure world-class EHS performance, with emphasis on risk mitigation and compliance for the operations assets for the company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Safety, Health, and Environmental strategies and programs, compliance auditing, environmental management systems, and general compliance support
  • Influence the behavior of individuals, systems, and work groups in a way that will facilitate the achievement of shared corporate goals by explaining the role and importance of leadership in a risk management context
  • Collect, classify, store, retrieve, and disseminate recorded knowledge to help make informed and data-driven decisions about occupational safety and health threats and hazards
  • Gather and apply credible information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate risk, and support decision-making
  • Show accountability by establishing workplace programs and worker safety and health advocacy practices in a moral, legal, ethical, and socially responsible manner
  • Demonstrate compliance with safety and health-related local, state, and federal regulations (i.e. process safety management (PSM), chemical facility security, transportation, etc.)
  • Identify potential risks and challenges related to environmental and permitting processes
  • Develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to mitigate these risks
  • Communicate complex technical issues both verbally and in writing to non-technical teams and Executive Leadership
  • Conduct audits and take action(s) to assure company-wide compliance and for continued improvement to the environmental compliance performance record
  • Prepare and submit environmental permit applications, modifications, and renewals
  • Review draft and final laws, permits, rules, and regulations for applicability and appropriate response
  • Engage and foster positive relationships with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, environmental groups, and landowners for multiple facilities’ sites
  • Manage and support safety and environmental personnel in the performance of their duties and other requirements
  • Provide leadership support:
    • To the facilities in emergency responses and in achieving safety & health performance, as well as environmental, sustainability, source reduction, waste minimization, cost reduction
    • To offsite AMVAC facilities, customers, and business partners to ensure the proper management and disposal of hazardous wastes related to AMVAC products
  • Responsible for compiling, recording, and reporting the environmental metrics for inclusion in the Company’s Corporate Sustainability Reports
  • Member of the Corporate Sustainability Committee responsible for setting the company’s sustainability strategies as well as goals and targets


Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 12+ years of industrial experience or equivalent alternate experience as senior EHS subject matter expert with 3+ of those years in a supervisory role with management experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Federal, State, and Local OSHA regulations for chemical manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of environmental permitting and compliance relevant to the chemical manufacturing industry - Title V permitting, hazardous waste (RCRA), hazardous materials (DOT), spill prevention and response (SPCC), stormwater, and wastewater
  • Demonstrated experience with TSCA regulations & reporting
  • Demonstrated experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) elements
  • Demonstrated experience with the EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) for chemical facilities
  • Proficient in MS Office applications specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Be able to travel up to 25% - 30%
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Occupational Safety and Health degree
  • Master’s degree desired
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
  • Additional coursework and/or certifications – OSHA, Hazmat, ISO, etc
