Job Function

As a Chemist I at the TYRATECH division of American Vanguard, you will assist the R&D team in research and development work at their Morrisville, NC laboratory. TyraTech is developing a range of advanced insect control products that are safe, effective, inspired by nature, and harmonized with scientific expertise. In this role, you will report directly to the VP of R&D working with other chemists in the R&D lab.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support insecticide, herbicide, repellency, and other non-agricultural development projects
  • Prepare and improve formulations used in efficacy screening
  • Use analytical balances to weigh and measure samples
  • Collect and summarize data and deliver results as oral or written reports as required
  • Work both independently and within a small team with minimal supervision
  • Develop and improve testing methodologies and assays
  • Assist in the maintenance, method development, and rearing of select insect species
  • Perform other duties as assigned by HR and Plant personnel when needed

Skills & Qualifications

  • 1+ years of laboratory experience
  • Basic laboratory skills including the ability to accurately weigh, measure, and follow mixing instructions
  • Basic understanding of different statistical methods to analyze data
  • High affinity for biological and chemical sciences
  • Ability and motivation to learn new techniques
  • Willingness and ability to work with a wide variety of insects and plants
  • Self-motivated to take projects through to successful products
  • Familiarity with the metric system and dilutions is required
  • Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills; High attention to detail
  • Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug test

 

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field (with laboratory experience)
